Child ID Kits
The RCMP Foundation has partnered with Walmart Canada Corporation to provide child identification kits free of charge to all families in Canada. Since the program officially began in April 2005 more than one million identification kits have been distributed.
What they are…
These kits are a useful tool that can aid in finding missing children quickly and return them home safely. The child id kit is a passport of the child’s identity including, photograph, fingerprints, blood type and a hair DNA sample. This information is kept by the parents.
How they Work….
The child’s fingerprints are taken with the provided ink strip and placed in the correct location inside the card. Included is a clear bag inside the kits for a piece of the child’s hair. This strand of hair must be pulled from the root to get the DNA. A current photograph of the child is also placed in the provided section. Changing the photograph and the child’s information on a yearly basis is a good way to keep the kit updated. Your child’s birthday is a good time to update the kit. Once all of this information has been gathered the parents seal the kit and keep it in a in a secure but readily accessible location. Should the police ever need this information these kits will save valuable time.
Where you can get them…
