"I can't believe I'm here where Sidney Crosby played!"
With RCMP Foundation funding support, the Atom and Peewee divisions of the Iqaluit, NT Amateur Hockey Association recently sent two teams of 17 players each to Ottawa to participate in the largest international Minor Hockey Tournament in the world.
RCMP members and coaches Cst. Richard Marshall and Cst. Denis Lambe, and coach James Lambe, RCMP Informatics Section civilian member, accompanied their teams for the exciting and winning experience.
Both teams easily competed in their respective divisions, reflecting the dedication and skill levels of the young players from Iqaluit. Their exhibition game at the home of the Ottawa Senators was a thrill of a different kind; they were actually skating on ‘NHL’ ice!
In all, for the boys it was a memorable perspective of the world beyond Nunavut
